Quick Tips To Elevate Your Gram Game
I get so many questions on how I curate my Instagram feed so I thought I would let you guys in on a few quick easy tips that I’ve been implementing lately. A few months back I did some major rebranding and basically re-did my feed, you can read more about that here. However that was just part of the journey. I’m constantly trying new things and researching new methods. But that being said I will share with you guys three simple things that I’ve been trying as of late. Read on for more!
Fill It Up
I’m all about the ‘filler’ photos. Aka pictures of things other then myself. These can be anything from flatlays, landscapes, detail shots, and more. Filler photos can be sort of a catch 22 because they tend to get much lower engagement, but to me it’s worth it. I love the look it gives your feed. It breaks it up and in my opinion makes you seem like a more interesting person, brand, etc. – not just all about yourself.
There are plenty of amazing feeds that use little to no filler photos. But for me personally I’ve noticed a significantly more aesthetic feed by adding in some interesting photos of places I’m visiting, cute corners of San Francisco, and flat lays of products I’m currently loving. (P.s. if you aren’t a natural at flatlays, *me* search how to do flat lays on Pinterest, there’s tons of good little tutorials that are so helpful!)
Color Your World
Recently I’ve been playing around with color schemes. It’s a personal decision how rigid or flexible you want to be with this, but I think a little effort goes a long way. For me I’ve been using a loose color scheme for every 12-15 squares. I’ll pick about 2-3 accent colors and then be really flexible with the neutrals. In my most recent feed I have pops of reds and blues mixed in with a lot of neutrals – black, grey, white, brown. Before that I had pops of purples, greens, and oranges again mixed in with neutrals like cream, black and brown.
It’s still a very new practice to me so I’m feeling my way through it and deciding how to make it work best for me. But overall I’ve been happy with the result. And even if you aren’t wearing something that’s one of your colors you can add it in to props or the background!
Keep A Nice Range
I admit I totally have a preference for full body images. I think it’s because I always want to do my entire outfit justice and that means I need to include the head to toe look. So whenever we’re out shooting I make sure to tell Clayton about 300 times to get full body shots, then when I go through and do selects I end up choosing mostly full body images – it’s just my preference. And while these shots are really nice and take up a majority of my feed I’ve noticed it’s crucial to add in a range of shots. This means having some close ups, some upper body shots, some really far away shots etc. Play with angles, distances, and poses to add a nice variety to your page. You can read more tips of mine on creating great photos here.
That’s all I’ve got for now, but I’m sure I’ll have some new tactics and strategies in the coming months that I’ll share with you guys! Xx
