My First Trip To Mexico
This past week I took my first trip to Mexico and it was one to remember. My friend Nihan (a fellow blogger babe @stylewithnihan) and I headed out to the Ensenada area which is just about an hour and a half from the San Diego area. Here we experienced a glamping stay at Cuatros Cuatro, adventured around the nearby wine area of Valle De Guadalupe, and much more. Read on for more!
Cuatro Cuatros Ensenada, Mexico
As I mentioned above we glamped (glamorous camping) at cuatro cuatros for our 3 night stay in Ensenada. I had a wonderful time filled with nature, new experiences, and the warm and welcoming Mexican people.
The property is a beautiful setting with cream canvas tents built on wooden decks, a gorgeous winery and vineyards, a quaint little restaurant, a bar built in the shape of a giant ship, and a sunset lookout bar on the top of the hill. We dabbled in all of these area and were delighted by the decor, the ambience, and the customer service in every aspect of the property.
The Accomodations
The cabins were very comfortable and accommodating. Our cabin was equipped with two heaters, a fire place, a very comfortable king size bed, a coffee maker, and a mini fridge. The shower was in the back of the cabin with a gorgeous rain drop shower head and two private decks on either side. It was a romantic little place to stay in the middle of nature.
The restaurant at Cuatro Cuatros was also a big hit. The food was superb and the staff was super sweet and friendly. We spent many a meal there and I became quite fond of their kind faces and delicious meals! It’s also very convenient considering it’s about a 3 minute walk from any of the cabins on the property. The prices are also very reasonable, especially for the quality of food. My favorite dishes here included the pancakes with fresh fruit and the shrimp risotto!
There is also a winery on the property which is both beautiful and occupying. Other than that there is a beautiful bar at the top of the hill that overlooks the ocean. It’s a great place to grab a cocktail and some snacks and watch the sunset. They also offer horse back riding, and are currently working on installing a pool! It’s got everything and more to keep you having fun your entire trip!
Exploring the Valle De Guadalupe Area
A couple of the nights during our stay we decided to venture out to the neighboring area of Valle de Guadalupe, which is a quaint little village North of Ensenada known for it’s wine and cuisine – much like a Napa Valley of Mexico.
We visited the restaurant Fauna at one of the hottest hotels – Bruma. It was a beautiful property with an iconic branchy tree in the middle of a mini lake. Fauna was a great little place with amazing decor and superb food. The vibe was modern but still earthy. Very trendy and hip. I tried the scallop and eggplant dish which was super interesting and delightful. It was paired with a black bean citrusy sauce, unlike anything I’ve ever had. The staff was also super friendly and accommodating.
The following night we headed to Laja – one of the top restaurants in the area, and it did not disappoint! It was definitely more of a down home classic feel rather than a trendy modern feel. For the better half of the 4 course dinner we had the restaurant (and the amazingly sweet staff) all to ourselves – we felt spoiled!
The four course meal that was made with fresh vegetables from the garden in the back was amazing. The down home feel was so charming. I loved being able to tour the garden in the back and learn of the love and labor behind the amazing meal. Our four course meal included edible flowers (my favorite), soft shell crab, butternut squash ravioli, fresh sea bass, and Peruvian churros. Everything was superb and the prices again were very reasonable considering the amazing quality and service, I believe it was around $35-$40 per person.
A Trip To Remember
All in all it was a very relaxing and enjoyable trip. I loved being able to explore a bit of a new country and it’s culture. I’m touched by the warmth and general friendliness of the Mexican people. I’m also grateful for the hiatus from the hustle and bustle of my daily life. The glamping experience was a great way to reconnect to nature and spend some quality time with a great friend. If you are able to travel to the Ensenada area you absolutely should! 🙂
