My First Outside Lands
Hey guys! If you follow me on Instagram you know that Clayton and I spent last weekend at the music festival Outside Lands in San Francisco. We had such a fun time at the festival and of course I wanted to share the experience with you guys! If you missed my stories over the weekend – don’t worry I’ll fill you in here on this blog post!
Chill Vibes, Good Times
Weather and Dress Code
All in all Outside Lands was such a good time. The weather was much cooler than it was down here in SoCal, which was actually so nice for a change. At times it was even a bit cold, but honestly after suffering through these past few Summer months without AC in our apartment I wasn’t too upset to be greeted by the cold weather. Of course I was trying to look cute and fashionable at the festival as well – so I really didn’t have the most weather appropriate clothes. Looking back I’d probably plan for some cuter bundled up looks next year.
But for most of the time at the festival it was really enjoyable weather, mild and sunny. The fashion at music festivals always inspires me and Outside Lands was no different. The fashion scene as a whole was much more toned down than Coachella, but there was still some great creative styling I saw. I opted for a more girly festival look on day One which you can find here. Day two I wore two outfits – haha, both of which were comfortable and edgy. You can check them out here and here!
The Mood
The overall vibe at Outside Lands is super laid back and casual. The fun thing about music festivals is that 98% of the people there are happy, which creates a great environment of friendly faces and great energy. Of course there are the crying drunk girls here and there, the bickering couples, and the overall zombied out people that went too hard. But other than that it’s just so fun to be around a bunch of happy people enjoying music. Music festivals are also highly populated events – obviously. So if you aren’t into big crowds, navigating through random people, and the alike – it wouldn’t really suit you. But if you are up the chaos it’s a great way to enjoy some music and make some great memories.
Clayton and I spent most of our time lounging on the grass discovering new artists, taking pictures, sipping drinks, and dancing the night away. We were lucky enough to run into a few friends while we were there too, which was just the added cherry on top! 🙂
Food & Drink
We actually didn’t end up eating that much at Outside Lands. The food that we did have wasn’t bad though. They had plenty of vegan options such as empanadas, ramen, and vegan hot dogs. It’s always nice when an event caters to all dietary restrictions etc. The drinks we had were also really great! We stopped by the Horse Feather booth plenty of times to enjoy the Mistic drink. I can’t remember exactly what was in it but some sort of tequila, serano pepper, lemon situation that tasted and looked amazing! We also enjoy coconut margaritas that were delish. Having a yummy drink in hand definitely makes the experience even better! 🙂
Logistics
As far as layout goes Outside Lands is set up in a pretty neat way! Theres plenty of stages but they are each spaced out in different areas of Golden Gate Park. This creates nice division between each of the areas. I’d say the main stage area was always the most crowded, so if you needed some relief you could meander over to one of the smaller stage areas and be a bit secluded from the other areas.
We also loved that Outside Lands is in the middle of a major city because it makes so many things accessible pre and post concert. For example, getting food or enjoying activities before a festival like Coachella is pretty limiting because you’re kind of in the middle of nowhere. However before and after Outside Lands we were able to do a little shopping, go to breakfast and lunch, and go out after as well. This was a nice added touch in our opinion!
As I mentioned above we had a great time. We would definitely go back again, and we hope to next year! 🙂
