Home Sweet Home

Hi guys! I’m so excited to finally share my home with you all. This feature has been highly requested for the past few months, so I apologize for the delay. Clayton and I moved into our place last January and we’ve basically been decorating and perfecting it ever since. So I wanted to wait until I had all the pieces before I shared it with you guys. It’s finally here – YAY! Read on to learn my decorating process, I’ll also link as many things as I can find! Don’t forget to watch the video version at the bottom of this article! 🙂
Mid Century Meets Modern Bohemian?
I don’t really know how to describe our personal style when it comes to our home decor. It’s definitely a fusion of a few different styles and a bit eclectic but still flows. As you’ll note I’ll refer to it as ‘our’ style because Clayton and I decorated our house together. I don’t think I ever really picked out a piece without running it by him or seeing if he preferred something else better. Sometimes we didn’t agree and my pick would overrule, but it all worked out in the end. 😉
As far as the theme of our home goes I’d say it has some mid century hints with the style of the furniture. There’s also some bohemian vibes due to the multitude of textures, patterns, and materials.
Living Area, Entry Way, & Kitchen
Although our apartment is only about 1,000 square feet it’s got a really nice flow and openness about it that makes it feel very homey. The entry way, living area, and kitchen all flow as one large space. It’s a somewhat non conventional space so it had it’s challenges when decorating, but we ended up finding perfect pieces!
The Entry

We didn’t do anything crazy with the entryway because it’s a really small space. And you basically only see it when you’re leaving the house. But of course I still wanted to make it as cute as possible. For starters we went with this Ox (I think that’s what he is?) print. It’s such a friendly face to look at when leaving the house. It’s also a chic/trendy black and white print that makes a statement.
To compliment this we added this little gold bench with a blue velvet cushion. I’m kind of an over-doer so I wanted add in a fringey throw and a wicker basket. I love the mixtures of texture this created in this little corner. To frame out the space even more we added in a singular shelf above the print. Here we have a few meaningful knickknacks and a little globe. We used to have a living plant here but that was clearly wishful thinking as this space gets little to no sunlight (sorry plant!) I loved the effect of the green in this area so I opted for this fake draping plant instead.
We also have this little fringe rug that is somewhat similar to the larger rug we have in the living area. It helps to tie them together that they have a similar pattern. We also have another wicker basket for added storage + texture.

Living Area

When it came to decorating our living area Clayton and I decided we wanted to be a bit more minimal than we were in our last apartment. So we went pretty light on the wall decor and added in a ton of plants. The overall effect made for a cozy, natural, vibey home that we absolutely love!
Bohemian Influence
The first pieces we purchased for this space was our green velvet couch and our fluffy chairs. I loved the luxe vintage feel of the couch and the cozy boho vibe from the chairs. From here we built off of these pieces. I wanted to tie in a lot of color so I opted for this rug that has pinks, blues, oranges, greens, and yellows in it. From here we decided to pull on the pinks in the rug and offset the green so we got these pink toned pillows for the couch. The pinkish moroccan pouf in this room is a souvenir we actually brought home from Morocco! We also have these comfy floor cushions for nights when we want to eat dinner at the coffee table, since we don’t have a traditional table.
We thought gold would be a good color for this space so we got two gold coffee tables, one round and one square to add some variety. To decorate the tables we used plants, books, candles, and other knickknacks. For the wall space we opted for one large piece which is this perfect simplistic round mirror. We also added in a hanging light for an interesting feature and some added light as we have no ceiling lights in this room. To help frame out the wall we got a big majestic Palm plant. It’s been a tough one to keep super healthy and happy but we’ve finally on a good watering schedule and I think we’re gonna be okay! 🙂
Materials and Accents

As I mentioned before we’ve got a mix of materials in our home. Although we have mostly wicker and gold in the living area we got a darker wood TV console with a mid century design. The hardware on this piece came silver so we simply spray painted them gold to help flow with the other gold pieces. Our TV takes up most of the space on this piece so it’s lightly decorated but of course it’s fully surrounded by plants. We also have a darker wood bookshelf in this area that is home to mostly books as we have a lot of those. We also use it to store a few photos, personal belongings from travels, and so on. Above this piece we hung a print that reads ‘good things are coming.’ I’m a big believer in energy and manifesting so I loved the positivity this piece brought into our home.
Lastly we have this little nook area in the living space that’s home to our laundry room, a storage closet, my hats, and a storage bench. It’s an only shaped space that doesn’t have a ton of room bit it turned out being really cute. A hat wall is a great way to store your hats and add a cute accent wall to your house. This bench is home to most of my boots, which is also an aesthetically pleasing way to store things away!

Kitchen

Clayton and I were so excited about this kitchen space as it was a huge upgrade from out last kitchen. The white countertops and cabinets are everything and more that we could dream of. The openness of it is so nice and welcoming. The island is a huge surface area which is great for cooking, working, entertaining and the alike. I didn’t want to crowd the island so I kept the decorating pretty minimal with one tray with same faux florals, candles, and knickknacks. Again since we don’t have room for a traditional table we invested in some nicer barstools. I loved the contrast they gave to the white cabinets.
To spice up another corner of the kitchen we added in this bar cart. If you haven’t noticed bar carts are very trendy right now, and maybe they always have been. Clayton and I were very excited about this little part of our home. It’s chic, fun, and practical. We went with this mirrored and gold one to match the other gold pieces and add some light to the corner with the mirrors. From there it was pretty simple you just add on cute bottles of alcohol, pretty glasses, and a few knickknacks and pictures.

Office & Spare Bedroom

One of the biggest upgrades from our last place was the spare bedroom and office we gained at this place. This space has been so helpful to me and my work life. It allows me to sort of separate work from home and at least concentrate this part of my life into one room when I need to. It’s also been so helpful in hosting our friends and family when they come to stay. It’s obviously not set up as a bedroom most of the time but we have an air mattress we set up whenever someone needs it and it works great!
Since this is my office I went for a bit of a feminine vibe, hence the pink accents. The bohemian theme is carried out through the moroccan inspired rug, the wicker baskets, and the tassels. To keep the light bright vibe going we added in a bunch of plants and white furniture. And again I kept the gold accents with the desk accessories and the chair!

Master Bedroom

For the master bedroom we kept it pretty cozy and bohemian. I’m glad we did this rather than a more modern or minimalistic bedroom because it makes it more cozy and homey. We actually scored most of our bedroom furniture at the Long Beach Flea Market. Our two nightstands and dresser only cost us around $300, such a steal! We ended up splurging a bit more on our bed frame, but totally worth it because we LOVE it and I think it will last us a very long time as it can be mixed and matched with many styles.
For the bedding we kept it simple and white as I find it to be the most classic and comfortable. To add some flavor to the bedding we got these oversized fringed pillows, and a few smaller macrame type pillows which all really added to the bohemian vibe. I really wanted a statement blanket since our bedding was quite plain so I got this gorgeous knit blanket and I love the way it looks. It’s not a very comfy useful blanket but to be honest I wanted it for looks so it does it’s job in that way!
Just very recently we started putting in the final accents and touches into our bedroom. Again we kept the plant theme strong to make the room feel organic and lively. And to really elevate the decor we added in these gorgeous hanging lamps above our nightstands. I think they are my favorite part of the whole room, they are such a statement. We also added in this wicker chair recently which added another nice homey touch.

Bathrooms

Our bathrooms are pretty small so we kept them simple as we didn’t want to overwhelm the small space. We also kept the color schemes pretty neutral to flow with the rest of the house. For Clayton’s bathroom we kept everything grey, black and white. We added in a few plants (faux and real) to add some greenery. My bathroom is slightly more feminine and colorful with a navy, salmon, grey color scheme and one plant. A few simple prints in each one really make them come together, simple! 🙂
