If you follow me on IG or are subscribed to my YouTube channel, you’ll know how much I love interior design and decorating. And it’s a topic I’ve been getting a lot of DMs about! Though we recently moved (big announcement here!), for the last year or so, Clayton and I had lived in an industrial-style loft, which is basically one big area that’s a more nontraditional space. The concrete flooring, exposed air ducts, cooler tones, and not having actual “rooms” can make industrial-style interiors feel cold, impersonal, and hard to style. To bring the space to life and make our loft feel more warm and homey, we decided to go for a more antique and vintage vibe with neutral and warmer tones, warm lighting, hanging light fixtures, lots of plants, artwork, and decorations with some fringe and tassels.
Now I can’t wait to bring that vibe into our new house (and to town down some of the farmhouse feel the house came with). Since I love this style in general, I wanted to share with you guys my favorite places to shop for vintage(esque) home decor!
Urban Outfitters
Urban Outfitters is pretty well-known for it’s cozy, vintage, and boho-style home decor. I love mixing and matching different textures and styles, and Urban Outfitters has some of the best selections of throw pillows, throw blankets, and rugs. One home decor tip I wanted to share with you guys is that you don’t have to invest in rugs to create a good space (IMO). And Urban Outfitters has some really affordable, high-quality rugs that look and feel just as expensive as the splurge-y ones. I love rugs with busier and more intricate designs, so I’ll study a picture of one that I really like and try to find a dupe!
Flea markets
Flea markets are the best place to thrift fun and unique home decor that give off that authentic vintage vibe. And it can be a lot more affordable! We’ve picked up some of our bedroom furniture (like our dresser and nightstands) and little vintage knick-knacks by browsing through flea markets. We love going to the Rose Bowl Flea Market, Long Beach Flea Market, Melrose Trading Post, and local thrift stores.
TJ Maxx
I like to decorate any open spaces (like our coffee table, media console, bar cart, and open shelves) because I feel like it just ties everything together. And as you guys probably know, you can find a lot of inexpensive home decor and knick-knacks at TJ Maxx. We don’t keep alcohol on our bar cart, so we decorated it with some chic, vintage-style finds from TJ Maxx (like our glassware!). I like to decorate with candles because of the ambiance it creates, but I feel like candles are another item you don’t necessarily have to invest in. TJ Maxx has a big candle selection and they’re affordable!
World Market
We’ve gotten a lot of our boho and macrame home decor from World Market (like our hanging light fixtures in our living room). I think the hanging element makes such a difference in how your space feels, and it’s the perfect accent for any home office, living room, or bedroom. World Market also has great accent furniture that adds a pop of style to any space (like the white fuzzy chairs in our bedroom and gold mirrored bar cart in our living room)!
Estate sales and garage sales
This isn’t something I do too often but it’s always worth checking out local estate & garage sales. Someone else’s trash might be your treasure and a lot of times with estate sales, someone has passed and they are getting rid of their stuff. Definitely some gems to be found in those and you can usually bargain down prices in both situations so don’t be shy 🙂
