ICYMI I rounded up my favorite 2020 fall fashion trends and how to style on my YouTube channel. Definitely check it out if you haven’t already! Fall is my favorite season and these are one of my favorite videos to make so I wanted to share my top trends with you guys on the blog. It’s a really fun way to dive into the trends for the season, see what I’m inspired by, and ways to style them. Here are the top 10 fall trends I’m into this year!
Sweater vests
I’ve been wearing sweater vests since spring, and it’s a trend that’s been getting even bigger in the fall. They’re really easy to wear and style! And I love the boyish, more masculine look. I like to wear them baggy/oversized to keep it comfortable and achieve that cool, edgy vibe. For fall, I’ve been pairing them over t-shirt dresses, chunky combat boots, and mini handbags.
Baby doll dresses
This was one of my favorite 2020 summer trends, but I love the way they’ve been tailored for the fall. Vogue said that longer hems have been in style for fall/winter fashion for so long, so shorter hems seem really fresh and exciting for the fall. And Cosmo said something similar! I love pairing baby doll dresses with over-the-knee boots for the perfect contrasted look.
Bra tops + overshirts
This trend caught my eye in Cosmo. And it’s a trend we’ve been wearing for the past couple of months, which makes it easier to transition into fall with more, maybe heavier layers depending on wear you live. I love going more basic with this trend because I think it fits the laidback style perfectly. If you live somewhere hot like me, I’ve been pairing bra tops with thin and airy overshirts. If you live in a cooler climate or it gets into the cooler months, you can just layer on a leather jacket or blazer on top of the overshirt. For pants, you can really pair it with anything (trousers, baggy jeans, and even sweatpants!).
Leather blazers
I feel like leather is always in style, but head-to-toe leather has been really hot this year! I think it’s a really chic and timeless way to dress, especially as we go into fall/winter. I’ve noticed that oversized leather blazers have become huge this year. It’s a great staple to have and great for layering. And obviously really warm for the colder months! I like to style my oversized leather blazers with baggy jeans and a bra top to get that 90s/dad style vibe that’s also sexy and feminine.
Schoolgirl/preppy
This is another spring/summer trend that’s transitioning into fall. And I’m loving how fun it is to style. Think of collegiate-wear, collars, pleated skirts, sweater vests, etc! I think this trend is quintessential to fall because it reminds me of fall back-to-school style, which was always my favorite vibe. I love pairing pleated skirts with oversized collegiate crewnecks layered over a collard shirt. I like to leave the crewneck and shirt untucked to get that baggy, oversized style that’s really in with the schoolgirl trend.
Lingerie as streetwear
I’ve been wearing lingerie as streetwear for years. I think it’s so cute and I’m glad it’s taking off this season. I love wearing lace body suits overs shirts, under blazers/jackets, and just as-is with slacks, skirts, jeans, and even sweats. I also love the look of leather and lace together, so I like to style my lingerie with faux leather pants for that feminine/masculine look all in one. To add a layer for fall, I’ve been adding on a lighter colored blazer for extra warmth.
Cropped blazers
I think cropped blazers have been inching their way into fall for a few months now. I’ve been loving them ever since I started seeing them in spring. The cropped look is such a good fit and a fun, unique style. I’ve been pairing cropped blazers with bra tops and neutral trousers for a more chic, polished outfit.
70s prints
70s prints are a fun trend I feel like I previously never would’ve worn. But that’s the funny thing about fashion! Trends come up and you find yourself looking at them in a new way and inspired to try them. This has been huge on the runway, especially with Prada and Victoria Beckham. 70s prints are bold, vibrant, busy and specific. But if you stick with more muted and neutral colors, the patterns will be less overwhelming. I’ve been seeing them in an edgier, more street style way, which is definitely more my style!
Oxfords/loafers
Oxfords/loafers are another trend I never found myself gravitating towards because they never truly felt like me whenever I tried to style them. But this fall, I’m trying to learn how to style them and wear them in a way that makes me feel confident! This shoe trend really goes back into that schoolgirl/preppy vibe. I think they look really good with jeans, sweater vests, and pleated skirts. I’ve been pairing them with cropped denim, an oversized sweatshirt, and a leather jacket. It’s a really English-inspired street style look I can see myself wearing in London!
Belted jackets/blazers
The belting/waist-cinching trend was huge on the runway this fall. And I love this trend because it looks so good on everyone! Especially if you take something oversized (like a blazer) and cinch it in the middle with a big statement belt at your waist. It creates a flattering shape and really brings the eye right to the waist. And I love the symmetrical aesthetic you get from the boxy shoulders, cinched waist, and flared bottoms. This trend is really easy to recreate and style. All you need is a statement belt and an oversized jacket, blazer, button up, etc.!
