Let’s Talk About Health And Fitness
Recently I’ve been getting lots of inquiries about how I stay fit. I’ve decided to discuss the topics of health and fitness more here on The Styled Seed, as I want to help you guys in any way I can! Fitness and health have actually always been an important part of my life so I am excited to share everything I know with you guys! Read on if you want the deets on how I stay healthy and fit!
You Are What You Eat
Diet is hands down the most important part of staying healthy.
Unfortunately it doesn’t matter if you run 20 miles a day if all you eat is pizza and hamburgers. Some people appear to get away with this lifestyle. But take note that this usually starts to cause health issues or obesity after you hit your mid twenties. It also is never a good idea to deprive yourself of the food and nutrients you need. Do NOT be afraid to eat. If you eat right it will help you maintain a healthy weight, not gain weight.
Your body lives off of whatever you put in it. If you’re going to pollute it with yucky stuff it’s going to come back to bite you. And no matter how good that food tastes, it’s never worth disease or illness. That is at least my personal philosophy. I’m not here to tell anyone how to live their life, do whatever you see best. But this is how I live my life, and it is a huge contribution to me staying healthy and fit.
What I Mean By A Healthy Diet
My diet is kind of hard to label. The easiest way to describe it is: I eat vegan but sometimes when I am out I eat seafood.
I get this is confusing because being vegan means no animals or animal products, and seafood is obvs an animal.
But this is the shortest sweetest way to round out my diet, so bare with me.
I never cook or buy seafood at the store. My household is completely vegan (except for honey) but sometimes when I am out at restaurants or social gatherings I make exceptions solely for the sake of convenience. I can go more into depth about my diet and why exactly I chose to eat this way on another post.
Now to be healthy and to eat healthy you do not have to be vegan(ish) like me. But you have to be mindful of your food.
Limiting your intake of sugar, dairy, red meat, and white flour is always a good idea. There is countless studies on all of these foods and how they really aren’t the best things you could be eating.
And no, you do not have to eat salads everyday to be fit. Trust me, I eat plenty of delicious stuff everyday that is within my “diet.” If you guys would like to see some healthy recipes I have on repeat I can also include those in upcoming posts! Let me know.
Get That Body Movin’
I’ve honestly been into working out since I was in middle school. I realize now that this is kind of unusual. I played sports growing up but I’ve also worked out in a traditional gym for as long as I can remember. However, you do not need to workout in a “gym” setting to get fit. In fact, you don’t need any equipment at all to get fit.
Since working out has always appealed to me I’ve found it to be a pretty easy thing to incorporate into my life. But you don’t have to be obsessed with working out to make it a part of your lifestyle.
In fact, some days I only work out for 15-30 minutes a day.
I currently try to do some form of exercise 3-5 times a week. And this does not mean hitting the gym, going on a run, or pumping iron for each of those days.
Sometimes life just happens, and it seems damn near impossible to get a workout in. But there’s tons of little ways to get a pump in that your body will thank you for later.
Some days I spend an hour or more in the gym. I’ll do about 30 minutes of various cardio and thirty minutes of weight lifting. Two days a week I go to a trainer with my boyfriend’s mom. The sessions are only 30 minutes long but I’m shakey and dripping sweat at the end of each one. Other days I do 15 minute in home workouts such as sit-ups, push ups, jumping jacks, and squats. When the day gets ahead of me and I’ve lost all time for the gym my boyfriend Clayton and I will take an evening walk after dinner. When I’m really feeling lazy I will do leg lifts and squats while I lounge around and watch TV.
I could go on and on about the various things I do to get my blood flowing. But the point is, the list is endless. There is so many opportunities and ways to get your fitness on. So get creative and get fit however you want that day!
If you guys are interested in this I will also do more posts on specific workouts. Let me know!
Find Your Balance With Fitness and Health
Being healthy and staying fit are so important. But sometimes we get a little too caught up in the fitness craze.
One of the most helpful ways for me to stay in shape and maintain a healthy lifestyle is to find balance with it.
Both my diet and my workout routine are manageable and achievable for me. I am genuinely happy with the way I live my life.
Because I eat healthy and consciously consume my food I feel content with my body and my decisions. When I used to eat like crap I used to feel like crap too. I no longer have any guilt about the foods I consume and my body thanks for me this as well. This is a huge motivation to keep eating the way I do and it makes it very easy.
I also don’t obsess over how long or how often I workout. Having flexibility and versatility in my workout routine allows me to achieve my goal of staying fit without obsessing over it. Be sure to eat and train however you are most comfortable. The information I’ve shared with you is my personal way of eating and working out. But if you want to workout 2-3 days a week and cut out sugar or whatever, you’re still going to see a difference and feel better!
Realistically incorporating both fitness and a healthy diet into your lifestyle allows you to feel and look great. And what is better than that?
