How To Style Oversized Clothing
I’ve always had a thing for oversized clothing. I love the baggy feel, the mobility it allows, and the general vibe it creates when styling. Years ago I expressed my love for oversized clothing with flowy bohemian pieces. I’ve somewhat outgrown that style and now I tend to lean more towards the street style over sized look. For today’s post I thought I’d share how I’ve recently been styling my oversized pieces, and how to take them from swallowing you to making them edgy, chic, and sexy! Read on for more!
Don’t Be Afraid of Baggy
Baggy isn’t bad, at least not when you know how to style it well! The trick to get your oversized clothes looking flattering and well fitting is to keep everything cinched and pinched in the right places. For example, I was honestly swimming in this two piece set before I cinched the waist belt tightly. It creates the shape you need to outline your body while still pulling off that edgy baggy look. A belt tied around your waist is always a great way to cut into a baggy look and make it super flattering. If the garment doesn’t come with a belt don’t be shy about laying one on! Anything from chain belts to classic leather ones will do the trick.
Get Risque
Another tip for taking your oversized fit from frumpy to red is to show a little skin. For example, with today’s look I opted for an exposed deep V cut on the blazer. Typically I would wear something underneath a blazer, but to help transform this look I chose not to. Letting a little bit of the lace bra peek out is an added touch of femininity and interest. If styling an oversized dress, for example a baggy t-shirt dress, don’t be afraid to cinch it in with a belt and show some leg! These are great ways to add some shape, sex appeal, and style to an oversized look!
Accessorize
To be completely honest here I meant to wear heels with this outfit. But unfortunately I was traveling at the time of shooting it and I left them behind. I was pretty bummed out because I really wanted to rock heels to elevate this look and make it a bit dressier. Adding the extra heigh and sex appeal of heels is a great way to spice up a baggy look. But luckily sneakers lend well to these types of looks as well because they play on the edgy street style side of the look. Other than that I think accessories are a game changer for these types of looks. It depends on the exact outfit and vibe you are going for, but be sure to pay attention to these details when styling. For example, in today’s look I wanted to keep it chic and pretty minimalistic. Therefore I decided not to rock a purse, as I was going to be wearing heels and I wanted to keep the masculine vibe going. However, since I ended up rocking sneakers instead a cute little clutch would’ve been great for this look. A little pair of round sunnies always helps add to a look as well as some simple gold necklaces. However play up to your mood and outfit using hats, belts, bags, shoes, sunnies, etc.!
I hope you guys enjoyed this styling diary! Will you be rocking an oversized look soon? Would love to see it! 🙂
