Layered necklaces are an effortless look we all love. But there actually is a recipe for the perfect stack! Strategically layering necklaces (without getting them tangled) can polish up any look and make it look like you put more thought into an outfit than you really did. But it can be a hard styling tip to master. So here are some key tips on how the heck to actually layer necklaces!
Wear at least 3
I like to wear at least 3 necklaces at a time to achieve that perfect layered look. I feel like I get the most out of this look this way! I go for one short, medium, and long.
Layer by length
To avoid getting tangled, I like to layer my necklaces by length. So putting on a choker or the shortest necklace first, then the medium necklace, and lastly the longest necklace.
Play with weights and textures
This is a fun styling trick because it takes the look one step above the minimalist, uniform chain style. When I want to draw more attention to my jewelry, I like to go for bolder and chunkier chains. You can also be more playful and layer chokers, beads, and other fun designs. Mixing weights between thinner and thicker chains actually prevents tangling! I like to add a classic coin pendant or a simple medium length necklace to soften it up and add some detail.
Mix or separate metals
This depends more on your personal style! Wearing similar shades of metals will help create a more unified look, but don’t be afraid to mix metals too! Meaning you can wear both silver and gold together. It creates a fun look that’s unique to you. It helps to throw in a bridge piece if you’re mixing metals! It brings together the different metals by including multiple shades in its design.
