My First Time In Paris
If you’ve been following along on Instagram you probably noticed that Clayton and I have been doing a little traveling this past week. First we jetted off to Marrkech Morocco for a photoshoot with the Joyfolie team and then we spent two nights in Paris. It’s been a whirlwind of adventure to say the least. Although it was only a week long trip we managed to squeeze in a few different countries, a lot of laughs, and some amazing experiences. A full recap of the Morocco portion of our trip will be on the blog in the coming weeks but for now I wanted to share our quick Paris trip with you guys!
This trip was our first trip to Paris and it will be of no surprise that we quickly fell in love with the iconic city of love. It’s hard not to. It’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it’s full of rich culture and history, and there’s something especially romantic and magical about it. Below I’m going to share a few of my favorite parts of Paris (all of which I would like to explore more thoroughly on a longer trip of course!)
The Fashion
No matter what city I go to I always take note of the fashion. It’s in my nature to observe and absorb the fashion styles in every environment so I immediately picked up on the chic polished styles in Paris. Even in the airport I noticed that most people dressed very well. From women to men and even children, everyone had great style. And although they look very put together, I also noticed that it comes off as somewhat effortless, because for them I’m sure it is.
The weather was mild but slightly on the cooler side while we were there so a lot of the fashion consisted of expertly layered looks. For the women this consisted of draped scarves, trench coats or biker jackets, and stylish boots or sneakers. The “ugly sneaker” trend was in full effect, which I love. Clayton and I brought our chunkiest Fillas on the trip so we fit right in. I found that they paired perfectly with everything (especially my girliest looks) and they were comfortable for all the miles we walked.
Many of the men in Paris were wearing three piece suits with vibrant accents and fun details such as textures or patterns. Some were dressed less dapper and more punk I would say, sporting beanies, oversized denim jackets, and boots. It was refreshing and inspiring to see a community of people dressed with pride and style.
I couldn’t wait to bust out my own European flare of style. I opted for a sassy yet comfortable look since we were doing so much walking. I am obsessed with bustiers right now. I love the idea of layering them over other clothes like tops and dresses. I couldn’t wait to pair this Cosabella one with this fun off the shoulder top. It was the perfect way to break into this trend!
The Culture
This is obviously a pretty broad topic to cover, and it’s hard for me to speak with any sort of authority on it considering I only spent two days in Pairs. However, some things are easier than others to catch on to quickly.
For example, Paris like most European cities is rich with history and art. Although we weren’t able to do the museum tour this time around we took a quick bus tour the first night that educated us on about 15 of the most famous landmarks in Paris. The city is so full of beautiful architecture and rich history that it’s hard to believe. Their appreciation for architecture, consistency, and preservation is admirable – coming from America where we are obsessed with tearing down the old and building something new and modern. We also stumbled across a mini art show in the streets on Sunday afternoon. A few artists were displaying their works on the stone walls on a side street. The pieces were amazing and we honestly we wanted to bring them all home with us. I loved seeing the community of artists being celebrated this way. I always enjoy a city that appreciates the arts and Paris is certainly one of them.
Another thing that I should note about their culture is the people. We found the Parisians to be very helpful and inviting. Of course it helps to do your best at speaking a little French in your initial interactions with them. Luckily for me I took a few years of French in college so I can get by on the bare minimum. If you don’t have any experience with French I would suggest learning a few phrases before barging in there. It goes a long way to show them that you are trying and that you respect their culture and their language. It’s pretty silly to expect to go to any country and walk in to places and have the people act the way you do and speak the language you do. That being said we honestly had nothing but positive interactions with the French people and we can’t wait to go back and explore more of their rich culture!
The Food
Anywhere that condones at least three fresh baguettes a day is a place I want to be. All kidding aside they really do pride themselves in the quality and freshness of their bread and they seriously eat it all the time. What’s not to love about that?
And of course their bread isn’t the only yummy thing you can indulge in while there. Although Clayton and I don’t usually eat dairy or eggs we made exceptions this trip to experience the food in a more authentic way. For example we had to have some French crepes, a few croissants, and even a risotto dish. All of which were amazing and entirely worth it. The French crepes and croissants are nothing like the ones I’ve ever had before so I don’t regret it one bit. The wine is also amazing there – as to be expected. Good wine and good carbs, I couldn’t ask for more from a country!
All in all Paris was amazing. Although our trip was short it was meaningful. I definitely fell in love with Paris and I can’t wait to go back for more!
