The Art of Mixing Textures
Want a fun way to spice up your outfit? Mixing up the textures in your wardrobe is a great way to add a little flare to an everyday look. Its super easy and the possibilities are basically endless which means it’s a trick you can use at any time of the year!
Leather Pants
Okay, so I have to admit these pants aren’t real leather. But that is okay with me because that means no cows had to be harmed in the making of them! 🙂 Real leather is also very expensive so these “painted leather” jeans from Lucky Brand are a great alternative. However, if you have real leather that works just as well!
What I love about a leather or faux leather item is the edge it provides for a look. Wearing these babies makes me feel like a rockstar and that’s a feeling I would like to experience often. I usually pair these with a band tee and a moto jacket, which keeps the rockstar theme throughout. However, on some days I feel like half a rockstar and half a girly girl. The good news is leather pants allow you to pair them with either theme. A flowy pink blouse works just as well as a studded moto jacket.
For today’s look I decided to pair them with a cozy wool sweater from Free People. Rustic boho meets biker babe, at first it seemed a little far fetched but when I threw them together I really liked the way they came out! Anyways, I think its safe to say a pair of leather pants, faux or for real are a statement piece that work with so many styles!
Cozy Sweaters
Clearly warm sweaters are a must for fall and winter fashion. What is less clear is that there are multiple innovative ways to pair these cozy pieces to play on your mood for that day! When I am feeling laid back and relaxed but still wanting to be cute I like to pair a big comfy sweater with some distressed boyfriend jeans and a pair of flats or sneakers. When I am feeling like getting a little more done up I love to throw a baggy sweater over a slip dress or a funky skirt. For today’s look I chose to pair this sweater with my painted leather skinnies so that my outfit was somewhere between cool and comfy.
All in all I loved this look and the mixture of textures throughout. Some parts were soft and fluffy where other parts were sleek and smooth. This makes for a great contrast and a more unique spin on both pieces. Let me know how you like to mix up textures and play around with your outfits! Enjoy 🙂
