How To Be Inspired
To be completely candid with you, sometimes it can be hard to stay inspired. We live in a world with so much stimulation, content, and media it can often times be overwhelming. As a full time creative it’s essential to my business and my craft that I stay inspired. So how do I do that? Read on to find out!
Sometimes The Best Way to Reconnect is to Unplug
This may seem contradictory, but sometimes the best way for me to feel more connected to my work and my creative skills is to unplug from everything. Although I often pull a lot of my inspiration from online sources and social media, putting all of that aside from time to time is the best way for me to find my true inspiration. Wether it be 24 hours or 2 weeks, a break from the constant influx of images, articles, and ideas can be so refreshing.
One of the most crucial points in my still young blogging career (*1.5 year for anyone wondering) was when I took a break from posting and reworked my branding strategy. Keeping up on social is a lot of work, and being inspired can also be a lot of work. Therefore taking one off the table to take care of the other is sometimes necessary. So don’t stress out about unplugging for a while, when you come back and it will still be there. And better yet – you will feel better after you’ve taken a break. You will be refreshed, inspired, and optimistic rather then tired, bogged down, and frustrated. So next time you’re in a rut take a few black out days from social channels and get your natural creative juices flowin’!
Remember Why You Started
I recently went through this period where I was taking on some campaigns that didn’t really resonate with me or my brand. And I started to reflect and think why am I doing this? And to be honest with you it’s really easy to get caught up in the excitement, the money, or the challenge of campaigns. But these highs are short lived and left me feeling a little empty inside. That’s when I started to realize I needed to have more integrity in my work and my brand. I needed to remember why I started The Styled Seed in the first place and make sure that every campaign and opportunity fit my brand and my life.
Sometimes it’s good to try new and challenging campaigns that you do genuinely like but are a little out of your norm. But once you realize you aren’t feeling inspired or motivated to do this work – you know you’ve gone too far. So if you’re like me and you have a hard time saying no to anything, be careful of what projects you take on. I learned the hard way that the more authentic I was with my campaigns and projects the more inspired I became, and that is priceless!
Try Something New, Try Something Silly, Try Something Weird
When all else fails just try something new. It doesn’t have to be perfectly thought out, perfectly curated, or even make sense. Don’t go self destructing or anything but don’t be afraid to try something totally out of the ordinary for you and your brand/craft/etc. Sometimes we plateau and we can’t figure out why we aren’t growing anymore. This can be a super frustrating and defeating feeling. And the best way to get out of this rut is often to try something new.
Say you make all of your captions short and sweet little blurbs about your outfit (*guilty*) well to switch it up and try something new you could share a really personal or profound thought in your caption and see if you get a different kind of response. Or perhaps you always look cool, calm and collected in your photos (also used to be guilty of this) – try showing some more exciting or raw emotion. Once I started sharing more candid photos of my smiling and laughing my audience responded in such a positive way and I’ve never stopped sharing smiling pictures since! You can also try new styling, new writing styles, posting at different times etc. Just don’t be afraid to try new things. This will inspire you and your audience and it will also help you figure out new growth strategies!

Haha that is my biggest struggle! I’m totally a yes person and that has definitely got me in trouble before! It’s so important to stay true to who we are as brands, and unfortunately that can often mean more no’s then yes’s. We’ll get there my friend! Lol
